1. Johannesburg
Start your trip across South Africa in one of the country's most vibrant cities. Johannesburg bulges with creative expression, urban thrills, and rich history. Begin with a morning stroll in the colourful Maboneng Precinct as you enjoy a tour that focuses on street art and urban regeneration. Then swing over to the township of Soweto and bungee jump from a disused power plant after a visit of Mandela’s home. End at the Apartheid Museum and take pause as you learn of the country’s storied past.
2. Hazyview
Next, it’s time to move east as you cruise to Hazyview and thrill seek in tropical farm lands. Zipline through forests, whiter water raft, or take a guided horseback ride—just some of the many activities on offer. Learn about the banana and macadamia industries on a tour of an organic farm. Finish your day with an orchid walk and luxury spa. Trails lead towards the Sabie River where elephants splash around with their trunks, a cherry on a perfect stop.
3. Kruger National Park
Kruger National Park is South Africa’s most renowned and for good reason. In over 7,500 square miles of protected land, prepare to come up close and personal to lions, elephants and buffalo as you safari towards the “Big Five.” After a day spent chasing rhinos and cape starlings, retreat to your luxurious lodge. Treat yourself to a holiday star gaze after a dip in a pool and fine-dine with full service on a short-grass plain where, in the distance, hyenas move in cackles and zebras graze the land.
4. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
The intimate Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is your next stop. At 11,000 acres and located in Valley of Heaven, safari game drives will bring you up close to hippos, wildebeest, and crocodiles. Nature walks, a bike or horse ride, and 4x4 truck are great ways to explore wildlife among baobab trees. End your time with a village walk that teaches you of the local Esitjeni community.
5. St. Lucia
Cruise to the eastern coastline and St. Lucia, a town where hippos wander the streets at night looking for a feed. A world heritage site, St. Lucia is located within Wetland Park. Leatherback and loggerhead turtles can be spotted when leaving the beach to dive among the reefs of Sodwana or visiting Kosi Bay. Try your hand at deep sea fishing after a morning whale watch. Finish your day with an evening meal of lambi and lobster as you count stars at sunset.
6. Durban
Your holiday ends on the southern coastline with a road trip to the action-packed city of Durban. Located on Natal Bay by the Indian Ocean, the beaches here are golden and excellent launching points for a deep-sea fishing trip, surf or kiteboard. Visit “Golden Mile”, a beachfront promenade that features restaurants, cafes, and live entertainment—makes for the perfect spot to enjoy some king prawn and cocktails after a day cage diving in the Indian Ocean.
